Spotlight on sport & food, here at SIAL

The 15th edition of the International Festival of Culinary Photography, the FIPC 2024 ‘SPORT & FOOD,’ echoing the holding of the Paris 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Games, is a truly international event.

It is supported by the Government with the patronage of the Ministry of Food & Food Sovereignty and the Ministry of Culture, labeled ‘Cultural Olympiad’ by the Paris 2024 Committee.

With the support of Guillaume Gomez, Ambassador for Gastronomy, the patronage of Alexandre Mazzia, a three-Michelin-starred chef from Marseille, and the partnership of INTERFEL, the Interprofessional Association for Fresh Fruit and Vegetables, the event presents 20 professional photographers from France and abroad, each with a triptych to illustrate the chosen theme: Sport & Food.

You were able to discover 2 prints by each of these 20 photographers in the gallery passageway in front of Hall 6 at SIAL Paris 2024.

A word from the founding president of the Festival

Our society is, without doubt, an image society.

Photography, which has taken over from the written word, is a call to reflect, dream…and sometimes salivate when it comes to culinary photography.

Indeed, now more than ever, people eat first and foremost with their eyes, preferring to be damned rather than “eat dumb.”

A fringe occupation only fifteen years ago, culinary photography has become the main activity of a growing number of photographers worldwide, professionals of light who depict our plates and food so that our tastes, dietary habits, and culinary choices are elevated to the sublime. In cuisine, They have found a new arena to express themselves as artists with distinct codes, references, and talents.

Culinary photography is more than a product sitting on a plate—it is much more. Anthropological, ethnological, documentary, gestural, or portrait, it is the culmination of a genuine artistic process and the fruit of reflection on the part of graphic artists wishing to express themselves from inside the depths of the world of food. It has become a full-fledged art itself and has brought food into the realm of contemporary art.

This new creative niche now boasts artists of its own, who weave together discipline, humour, reflection, sensitivity, and emotion and show us the way to a world of dreaminess, gossamer light, and colour. Each culinary photographer has a definite and distinctive point of view. They sign their shots in the same way as painters sign their works.

The International Festival of Culinary Photography, IFCP, a unique global event open to professionals and the general public, is designed to be a convergence point for the trends pulsing through the profession today and a bold, vibrant global showcase given to an audience that is concurrently food-loving, aesthetically-refined and curious to discover innovative and personal works.
